Rosemary Loperena CPM, LDM, CLE, BSM

(she, her, hers)

Rosemary was born and raised on the beautiful Island of Puerto Rico.  After working many years in the corporate world, she realized the universe had another path for her life.

Her birth work started in 2008 when she obtained her doula certification from Doula Caribe International and the Lactation Educator certification (CLE) from the Graduate School at the University of Puerto Rico. Her work as a doula offered the experience to witness the determination and courage of many Puerto Rican parents who faced many challenges and discrimination in many hospitals in P.R.

These experiences inspired her mission to provide  every pregnant family with a dignified and respectful birth no matter their ethnicity, social status, religion or gender preferences. This gave her the strength and validation that midwifery was her destiny and vocation of life.

Rosemary completed a Bachelor of Science in Midwifery in 2018 and obtained her midwifery license to practice in Oregon in 2019, she opened with much excitement Puerta del Sol Midwifery serving the Latinx, Brown and POC communities of Portland Metro area.

Rosemary Loperena graduated from Birthingway College of Midwifery with a Bachelor of Science in Midwifery. She is a Certified Professional Midwife (CPM) through the North American Midwives Registry (NARM). In addition, she is licensed in midwifery (LDM) and recognized as a health provider in the state of Oregon. She is trained in Cardiovascular Resuscitation (CPR) for adults and children, as well as Neonatal Resuscitation (NRP), suturing, phlebotomy and pharmacological skills as part of the scope of midwifery practice. Rosemary had the opportunity to train for three plus years under the supervision of qualified and licensed midwives in the city of Portland and attended more than 100 deliveries before obtaining her Bachelor of Science in Midwifery. She is a member of the Oregon Midwives Council (WTO since 2014). Rosemary is currently a co-primary midwife for Unfurling Birth and Midwifery and Assistant Midwife for Vivante Midwifery.

"In my spare time I enjoy hiking, cooking and creating medicinal herbs for myself and my clients. Living in Oregon has renewed my passion for nature, and I love going to the forest and being surrounded by the eminence of Mother Earth."

Catherine Bailey CPM, LDM, LD (she, her, hers)

We have the privilege of collaborating with midwife Catherine Bailey, owner and founder of Unfurling Birth and Midwifery Services. Catherine graduated from Birthingway College of Midwifery in Portland, Oregon with a Bachelor of Science in Midwifery (BSM). She has been a Certified Professional Midwife (CPM) since 2013. In addition, she is a midwifery graduate (LDM) and recognized as a health provider in the state of Oregon since January 2014. Catherine is an active member of the Oregon Midwifery Council (WTO) since 2009. She also served as secretary for this council from 2014 to 2016.

Catherine was born and raised in Dallas, Texas. Her birth was by caesarean section because her mother was never informed that having a vaginal birth after caesarean section (VBAC) was an option for her. This experience has been an inspiration to support customers through VBAC and ensure that people are informed of all their options. When she graduated from high school, she moved to New York City and graduated from Sarah Lawrence College with a Bachelor of Liberal Arts with a concentration in "Studio Art and Child Development." In 2008 Catherine began attending births when she lived in Austin, Texas and worked in education. This motivates her to move to Portland, OR to begin her studies at Birthingway College of Midwifery in 2009. In 2011 she had the pleasure of being an apprentice in a birthing center for two and a half years, where she had the opportunity to learn and develop her skills under the supervision of several midwives in the center. Since her apprenticeship, Catherine has worked both in private practice attending home births and in childbirth centers. She has attended more than 180 births. Catherine cannot imagine a career that suits her abilities better than that of midwives and she is very grateful to have found this work inspiring and powerful.

Catherine enjoys the sun, anything outdoors, knitting, walking, gardening and spending time with her family, friends and her 12-year-old son.
